Future Aspirations

As Team 5 walked into the Street they had a good line up of speakers getting ready to speak. Mr.Andrew Patterson had never missed a Future Aspirations before, in term 2 he had a good line up of speakers and they were exceptional.

The first speaker was Anthony Samuels, who everybody in the intermediate block knew. He had a very good topic to talk to us about. He started to talk about his early life and how he started to entertain, and the rest of his life. In the early 90’s he started a job as a entertainer \ n what now and became the longest running producer in the What Now! Company. He was kind of a clown while we were looking at his photos back then, and he told us one quote which stated “Your past does not have to determine your future”

Up next as the 2nd speaker was my dear friend Paula Fakalata, he told us about his life & when he almost died. It all started when he was at school, he went to Glen Innes School. When he was little he thought he was the man at swimming but really.... When he would race he’d get tired and because he was very tall at a young age he’d act like hes swimming but hes walking.

Then one day he went to a tournament and almost drown, because the pool was too deep for him

Then it was the last one Her name was Amelia Unufe. She talked about how she became a fashion designer. She was in university and kids her class knew her they said to her ‘’ You're not gonna get a good future” because of her brother seted a bad reputation for her family

Overall Paula, Amelia & Anthony were very good i enjoyed it alot

RIPS

Have you been caught in a rip? If you panicked i'm surprised you're still alive because this is one of the most common factors in why people drown alot.New Zealand has one of the highest drowning rates in the OECD at the moment. First of all most people can be very dumb. if you had went to school and learnt about beaches.

To bypass a rip you have to make sure you are swimming between the yellow and red flags because it is the safest area to swim in. You would know to not overreact in a rip current, step one: never panic because i can cause alot of misunderstanding between your body and your brain, step two: when wanting help raise one hand and maybe call out if thats the only way to get attention from lifesavers or other people.

If you discover discoloured water ( never go towards it if you're scared of going out to the deep blue ocean, when discovered the discoloured water you will see that the waves are not crashing in the area where the rip is formed. The ocean will be rushing out towards the ocean.

I hope this has helped you in and out of the sea, commment to tell me if you have saved anybodys life.

Empathy Explanation

Just imagine the world without people being empathetic, this world will be very miserable. There will be no kindness around the world and around our community. Around everywhere there will would be no happiness & no laughter around the community and also around the globe. Just put yourself in there shoes and try go a day without empathy

How can people show empathy? Its simple all you have to do is show that you care along with others to see how much it helps. Also show respect if they're having a down moment and understand the situation there in at the moment, maybe if they're not as fortunate as we are maybe give them a sandwich to show that you care about them. Just try put yourself in them shoes and try go a day without empathy and see how it affects you.

Why is it important to show empathy? I reckon behind your screen right now you're asking the same question, same as me. Well without it guess how much violence would break down every hour? Like for example a robbery is a shopkeepers nightmare, robber gets away, unknown for whom the person may have been. Would you want to live in a community like that? Maybe if they used empathy there will be less crimes.

In conclusion. Empathy and the actions involved using empathy is very valuable. Sometimes it helps me at the lowest times in my life.

Kabaddi

Kabaddi is a contact sport which is originally based on wrestling, which formerly came from India. The game had its first international world cup in 2010 which was held in Punjab, India. This game came from the attack and defence from the youth of pakistan.

The skills needed for this game are: Agility, Aggression, Speed, Defence, and most importantly strength. The game is played by two teams, the raiders(One who enters into the court of the opponent with the cant is known as a ‘RAIDER’. The raider must begin his cant before he touches the opponent’s court.) and the catchers (the people from the opposite team who will attempt to tackle or bring down the opponent, if tug by the raider).

Each team will have a maximum of 10-12 players, but with 7 remaining on the playing surface. The playing time will be split into 10min halves. If the catcher gets tug then the raider has to try and run away in order to not get ground impounded on the ground or they may be put into a submission maneuver.

There are two teams Taniwha & Kioma. Taniwha runs around the circle trying to touch the Pous (the sticks in a circle around the area where you playing). & Kioma is trying to deny Taniwha from touching the pous and going into the circle where the Te Tupu is, from scoring a try. If you want to score a try you have to touch the pou then run into the middle, but if you pass the person that is receiving the ball behind the circle.

Rugby Writing.

Last week on Wednesday on the 23rd of july,  2 Open Weight Boyz  (me & my friend lorenzo) along with the under 65kg boys had a rugby game against Sacred Heart College. Our team was stacked and the pressure was on us, because our previous game we had beaten them by one try and we had to win this so it would be 2-0 wins to us.

Getting ready in the hall Lorenzo & I were worried if we were allowed to be playing because it was a under 68/70 ish kilogram game, but they didn't have enough players so we were going to be fill ins or water boys. I really wanted to play. All the boys were called out through the intercom to bring their gear & come to the hall. They looked surprised to see us.

Arriving at the fields our coach and manager asked the coach if Lorenzo & I could play for this game, and he said yes, we were happy as. Warming up we just did dynamic stretches, and slow jogs up to our coach Marzel. Then he named the starting line up and I was coming off the bench.

“Brrrrr” the ref blew the whistle and it was time to kick off...... Once I got on field, some of the Sacred Heart players our team knew where staring at me. They said “Isn't he overweight”, And I said “So what”. Again the ref blew the whistle and pointed to the spot because we had scored the opening try, it went to Jabez one of the fastest on the field. We were all happy to score the first try. The first half we were leading 10-5.

2nd half had begun and I was slowly getting tired so I started to get angrier and angrier.Gasping my breath I moved out towards the backline and the ball had come towards me and the spotted a big gap between their center and winger because we had a overlap, the goose stepped and bursted through the gap. I made about 20m and then I eventually got tackled, They scored consecutively and kept us scoreless then we scored, but all our goal kicks had not gone in.

By the end of the game we had scored five tries and they had scored 4, but had got the kicks in. and we lost bye 2 points, to have 1 a piece.

Jonny Wilkinson

The great Jonny Wilkinson has been the Fly-Half for england for quite a while in the english rugby union team. Playing many games for england, the englishman has sadly decided to retire from rugby union, after his 17 year capping for the team.

The 34 year old has lead the English team to victory several times, like in 2003 he gave England the edge just to win the game them to win against the Australian team with a dramatic drop goal to give their team a slight edge to lead ahead by 3 points.

Poster

This is my poster of my week one immersion thing.

PRESENTATION.

The New York who found $40,000

Three roommates who purchased a couch for $20 found $40,000 in paper stashed in the bottom of the pillows on the couch. And returned it to an 91-year-old upstate New York widow had clandestine'd the cash underneath the couch. WABC-TV in New York has proclaims that a State University in New York have found many envelopes secretly stashed inside the couch that was on sale for $20 bought from the Salvation Army earlier in march.
The money was found when they where cleaning the couch and lifted up the cushions so people could take a seat on the couch & one of the students found an envelope .The third year new-paltz to the university student Reece Werkhoven said he found the first cluster of envelopes on the side of the couch & kept searching till they found more envelopes stuffed with money in them.

News Article

During the middle of the night on the 15th of April, over 300 girls were kidnapped from their school in Nigeria. There has been a campaign stating "#BringBackOurGirls. Some of the girls have managed to escape from were ever they been held hostage, some believe that the girls have been put to slavery. To force Boko Haram to free the girls, the United States has announced that they will be deploying a 200 person military.

The kidnapping cause alot of people to change young girls from getting an education. Everybody around the world are devastated about the incident. The amount of girls who have been abducted in one night is weird because a whole army of men could at least make use of there lives and go to there most probably hopeless families.

Echolocation

Did you know some marine mammals and bats use echolocation? Comparable to a radar or any tracking system, echolocation is the manufacturing of sound used for communication. Echolocation is the use of a really high pitched echo frequency sounds for finding. How echolocation is used? Echolocation is used by Bats. How its used, it is used with the sound coming from their mouths & ricocheting back onto their ears which from any surface ahead of them.

Bats have really medium vision when it comes to lurking around at night, for example searching for prey & looking for a special flower to take pollen out of, unlike other species in the world they have perfect vision in the night time, there are over 500 bats in the world at the moment & they all different types one group & the two main types around are called the Megabats & Microbats. Megabats, in other names fruit bats.  From 2001 to 2003 fruit bats were tested to see if they have a disease called ebola and 1-3 bats came out Ebola positive, ebola is a hemorrhagic fever which is very rare to bats.

Not only bats use echolocation to track or find stuff around the place. Humans also use it as well, in a documentary a boy called Ben had lost his eyes as a child due to a sickness where it was he was in a do or die position. The shot calling where on his mum because he was only a little boy at the age of 5, his eyes started to play up when he was growing up and his mum had noticed a bump on his eye, & when he grew older he started to use his hearing as a seeing tool.

For him he made clicking noise with his mouth to track where he was, one of the awesome things he did that amazed people was running down & getting stuff for his mum around the house.

I think that echolocation is a great thing to be used around the world, the amazing thing about is that any species including us humans can use echolocation. I think that the boy Ben is really fortunate to have the power to detect where everything is. It could change your life.

Holiday's so far

It feels & I feel like a king to be sleeping in knowing that its the school holidays, I've had so much fun over the 4 days that we have been off. It kicked off with seeing my friend Waata after 3 weeks with him at his hostel in town. Without him in the neighbourhood left me to do nothing in the past weekends only the times he was allowed out was probably the only time I had to spend quality time with him.
Just the other night on Saturday We went to the Night markets Waata, Kendrix & I, for me I reckon that was our best memory, like eating heaps & getting to meet there parents. We've been all over the place, & today I'm going to Rotarua for My Family Reunion, I hope I have so much fun there because I've only been there 3 times, I don't like the smell but overall the place is beautiful.
Waiting for school is like waiting for a really unprepared restaurant bringing your food, because I really want to go back & see all my friends & just to be up at 8 until 3 :( This morning I woke up packed my bags thinking I was going to school but then my mum said "there's no school" then I frowned. Anyways next post coming up next week.

Show Not tell Writing (Narrative)

Waking up from an afternoons sleep, I look outside and. see the cats bright green eyes & hearing dogs bark from my neighbor's front lawn. The shadow of the trees scaring me .I was freezing so I go into the cupboard & get me 3 extra blankets, I can hear the sound of the kettle. “Mmmmm” hot water... I say with pleasure. I ran back towards my bed and hopped in the bed and tucked myself in.. Finally I was warm. Wrapping the blanket around my body I almost trip over. I go down the stairs, turn the light on, the light after a while turned off with no warning at all. I pour myself a cuppa tea, my mum says “Give me a blanket” I gave it to her. My toes where numb & also my arms.

On a beautiful school night, I try to go to sleep, I kick the blanket off my bed and roll myself on to the wall as close as possible. I ask my mum to “turn the heater off”. I close my eyes but still nothing was helping me to fall asleep. I managed to burst down the stairs put some ice in my mouth & my mum said “come back upstairs you got school tomorrow” I go back upstairs & try to go back to sleep. Closing my eyes I slowly go back down stairs, lye down on the beautiful cold couch, turn on the t.v & stare at the shadow of the tree branches. It seemed like a horror movie. Then eventually fall asleep.

Narrative about rugby.

Tj was bouncing from room to room because his older brother Lorenzo had allowed him to go along with him to the mall & do some shopping for his parents. Tj was all ready and had all of his coolest clothes on & walked out of the door with his socks, Lorenzo asked “Wheres your’e shoes?” Tj rushed into the garage & was looking for his converses, 20m later his friend came in his car & Lorenzo hopped in, while tj was still looking for his shoes, he was getting worried that he would leave.

Clock was bang on 80m & it was up to Dowie to score the try, 20m left & he would've scored he side stepped the prop who thought he was a fullback & his heart was racing. He had goosebumps along his legs & his face you could probably see it from a mile away. He dives for the corner and knocks on the ball. After the game one of his teammates sarcastically jokes about it then Dowie loses it.

Treaty Signing.

Just imagine being in the presence of British Representatives, & Maori Chiefs in the year of 1840 for the signing of the Treaty Of Waitangi, you can hear heated debates & discussions between the 2 nations about fighting for the Maori to either your rights or equal rights.  You're stuck on an Island which has no law & no rules & The british are trying to take over the your people and their rights. .As the people of the two nation’s gather to sign the treaty, everyone waits anxiously for peace of there land.
In 1840 there was a lot of conflict between the Maori and the British people. It was caused by loss of land, Murder or theft, but in between all that there were some peace between nations, because they were trader’s ( A converter )which means they could exchange weapons for either anything the natives had.
As the British started coming from britain to New Zealand they started provoking  the Maori people by killing for land or ripping them off. So then it started the beginning of the Treaty, the Treaty of Waitangi. On February the 6th 1840 the Treaty was signed, it was signed by 500 Maori Chief and 13 women Chief signed.
The end of the day 50 Maori chief signatures & 450 british signatures were on the contract. What the contract means to me? I reckon the treaty brought heaps of peace towards the 2 nations, but then after 5 years a war was declared between the 2 nations because Hone Heke brought to cut down the Union Jack.

Diving off the plane (narritive)

When Max was About to jump off the plane from thousands of feet high. Looking down towards the ground it feel like he was going to die. It was a new experience for Max, because had never jumped so high before.
Seeing his sister in comfort she didn't look worried at all. In the plane it was cold & started to give him the shivers. It felt like a waste of time. The time he took was almost forever. His palms started to sweat & his whole body was also starting to get numb. Then butterflies started to kick in & now he was at the point where he wanted to throw up.
He could see the clouds, gliding through the sky.He looked down it felt like I was the tallest guy in the world. His face was getting red, his teeth rattling. He ran & crouched behind the gear, while his heart was pounding he breathed in through his nose, out through his mouth.
Just before he jumped he took another gasp of breath still while his teeth were rattling. Flying in the middle of nowhere Max was the happiest kid in the world. He had came over his fear of heights. He could feel the wind rushing towards his face. It was like his skin was peeling of slowly. It felt like glory for the first time ever in his life.

Fia Fia Night

Anticipation of the crowd and how many people the rest of the school and I had to perform for, was a challenge. Over 2,000 people turned up with food stalls, blankets even cameras & ipads to take photos of their children. Before everything kicked off the 4 Mc’s & Mr Burt walked up to the stage Introduced themselves and explained where everything was & how Cameras/Ipads were allowed to be held up when taking photos. while my Group the Senior Kapa Haka group were nervously waiting for our cue on stage, the 4 Mc’s for the night where: Isara, Gloria, Tyla & Wyatt.

“No reira tena koutou, tena koutou, tena ra tatou katoa” Wyatt finished off his mihimihi then walked off stage. I could overhear people cheering on some of us individuals and myself. I got onto stage, with butterflies flying around in my belly and the shivers started to creep up my spine. The first song we sang some of us went flat because of the excitement backstage before our performance but the rest of our songs were sung to perfection & we all did our best.

“From one of the small oceans in the pacific, the Niueans bring heart & soul to the stage, Please welcome the Niuean Warriors” The coming on soundtrack started and our leader Lorenzo ran onto the middle at the back step from the opposite side of the stage, we followed with energy. Stevenson came up to the front of the stage and blew the conch shell. Lorenzo called “Monu! We shouted back “Monu! We yelled out together “Monu Tutagaloa”. A couple of some more items from us then we did our Takalo (haka) We made a crack in the middle of the stage from our big stomping, we were really intense and we were probably the best group on the night.

I reckon that we were louder than the Samoan Group because we thought we weren’t going to be loud,  Afterwards the stage had a crack where I was standing . Overall the night was awesome and our whole school did well too.
